Training and Curriculum Package
to Counter Gender-based Violence in India
WISCOMP announces the release of a unique Training and Curriculum Package to counter Gender-based Violence in India. The Package uses a range of resources and methods such as popular culture, social media, literature, manuals & guidelines, films, open letters, art, field visits and campaigns. It focuses on experiential, participatory and hands-on learning.
The 5 components of the package offer over 300 hours of training and engagement on a diverse range of issues to help young people build a culture of non-violence infused with values of equality, pluralism and social responsibility.
Some of the issues that the package addresses are Gender and Socialization, Masculinity and Femininity, Sexuality, Violence, Female Foeticide, Child Sexual Abuse, Sexual Harassment in Public Spaces, Domestic Violence, Intimate Partner Violence, Access to Justice et.al.
With original & indigenous content and interactive design, the package is ideal for educators and trainers involved with youth in schools, colleges, civil society organizations, and other institutions. It can also be used by professionals in law enforcement, health care, development, and media.
Re-Imaging Frames of Empowerment
A one-of-a-kind collation and analysis of the altered discourse within the Indian media on the issue of VAW. This multimedia presentation foregrounds the significant changes in the kind of messages conveyed by audio-visual media—especially advertisements and public service announcements—following the rape and murder of Jyoti Singh (Nirbhaya) in 2012, the episode that eventually led to the path-breaking Criminal Law Amendment Act, 2013 and Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace in India (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. A novel Handbook for school and college educators comprising training modules and activities that can be used in a classroom/workshop setting. The content is entirely indigenous and can be used to facilitate critical reflection on gender roles, gender stereotypes, and discrimination. Click here for a preview.
An Annotated Bibliography of a diverse and representative set of reports, toolkits, handbooks, and guide which address the issue of violence against women and girls from diverse settings which were developed post-2012. The resources in the bibliography range from studies commissioned by governments, police departments, city councils, university regulatory bodies and media houses, to reports and toolkits designed by international organizations, local NGOs and civil society groups. When Women Write…In Words and Pictures
A mobile exhibition on an intersectional understanding of the diversity of women’s experiences and the contexts in which they unfold. This exhibition comprises a rich collection of eloquent and riveting images to foreground the message of ending GBV, the ‘exhibition-in-a-box’ has been designed as a tool for advocacy and educational projects as each image and corresponding text come with a suggested guide for discussion. A deeply moving film that records the life, struggle and ultimate triumph of four outstanding individuals from diverse backgrounds and different parts of India who bring home a message of hope and resilience in the wake of Gender-based Violence. These individuals were awarded/shortlisted for the WISCOMP Saahas Awards 2017 that honours men, women and transgenders who are dedicated to ending all forms of violence against women and girls.
