Peacebuilding has always opened avenues for creative approaches. On 8th September, 2026, WISCOMP was delighted to host Bike for Peace, a Norway-based organisation founded and led by Tore Nærland, which has been cycling across the world on tandem bikes to advocate for a nuclear weapons-free world. Marking its 50th anniversary, Bike for Peace met with the WISCOMP team during its ongoing Round-the-World initiative, which it intends to conclude by submitting an appeal to the United Nations for a nuclear weapons-free world.
The Foundation for Universal Responsibility, of which WISCOMP is an initiative, has run similar programmes in the past, including Pedals for Peace, which promoted interfaith exposure through cycling. Drawing on this shared history, the WISCOMP team exchanged experiences and learnings with the visiting delegation. The conversation included a presentation by Tenzin Legmon, Senior Programme Manager at the Foundation, on the Foundation’s objectives and body of work. The exchange reaffirmed how deeply the two organisations share a vision for a dialogical approach to ongoing conflicts, and opened space to consider how such unconventional, ground-level approaches to peacebuilding can forge meaningful, lasting connections across borders.
