In September 2022, WISCOMP’s second Book Café unpacked the discourse on ‘oppressed Muslim women’, unravelling the complexities of recasting ‘Muslim Women’ as agential subjects in the public imagination, bringing their experiences and contextual specificities to the fore. Do Muslim Women Need Saving by Lila Abu-Lughod was used as the companion text to generate questions and ignite discussion. Young researchers including Sara Ather and Hameeda Syed made insightful presentations, deftly facilitated by Ambar Ahmad, Associate Professor, Kamala Nehru College.
