Book Details
WISCOMP organised a roundtable at New Delhi on April 14-15, 2010 titled Exploring the Contours of Democracy in Maldives. It provided a platform for shared reflection on the challenges and potential of democratic practice in Maldives - a state that has recently transformed from authoritarian one party rule to multi-party democracy. It brought together policy makers, scholars and civil society actors from Maldives and India to reflect upon the democratic processes currently underway in Maldives. The purpose was to generate a dialogue on the current challenges before the Maldivian government and the evolving contours of democratic practice in the country as it moves from a centralized, isolated and exclusionary state to a more inclusive participatory democracy. This publication is based on the discussions at the roundtable.
