Book Details
WISCOMP convened a meeting for Athwaas members in the aftermath of the Amarnath land row, as a way to assemble a diverse group of women who could discuss their differences in an open setting. Prior to the meeting, members had decided that due to the recent violence and the sudden realization of Athwaas public limitations as a grassroots organization, they should expand Samanbal membership to men and women from Jammu and Ladakh, in addition to Kashmir. With recent events and the organization's revelations in mind, the Athwaas meeting aimed to accomplish the following: include representative voices from all three regions of J&K; make Athwaas more inclusive in terms of stakeholders for resolution of the ongoing conflicts in the region; redefine the role of each member of Athwaas, as well as the collective, so as to articulate and work for a more comprehensive peace and security paradigm; examine the role of the current instigators of the conflict; identify different forms of violence that women experience in the public and private sphere; deliberate and build on a women's coalition to impel the inclusion of women at all levels of governance and in the peace process; prepare recommendations for women's inclusion as equal stakeholders in all political processes in the region; and prepare a blue print for future action. The publication is based on the discussions that took place during the meeting.
